What is a subdomain?

A subdomain is a smaller part of a large domain. It can also be referred to as a child domain. Better explained, a subdomain is what replaces the www section of your primary domain. For example. your primary domain is www.abc.com while an example of a subdomain is letters.abc.com . Here, "letters" is the subdomain.
